ASP 2011: The Planning

The SUMCASP Team is very excited to be going on yet another one of our famously sucessful missions. The 2011 ASP mission trip will be the 5th year in a row that our church has attended ASP. The program has certainly come a long way since our first adventure in 2007. That year, 5 youth, 2 boys and 3 girls, as well as 3 adult leaders attended. ASP 2010 boasted an attendance of over 25 youth and 10 adult leaders! This shows just how much the program has grown. This upcoming trip is expected to have more participants than ever. We don't know where the team is headed for the 2011 trip, but keep your eyes peeled for updates on the website!  (More) This year, we decided to work during the 7th week, just like last year, instead of the 8th and final week as we have for the first 3 years of the trip. The last (8th) week came at a late time this year, too, and since many of our youth participants are star atheletes with very busy athletic schedules, they obviously had to do the 7th week instead.  (Less)

The SUMCASP 2010 team is leaving for Mullens, WV in just over two weeks! Everyone going on the trip is very excited, especially our first timers. We have all been busy collecting all the things needed for the trip (click here to see the manifest), including tools, sleeping gear, clothing and more. A full list of what to bring can be found in the Trip Info section. What exciting adventures await us in Mullens? We will have to just wait and see! Local ASP veteran Rebecca Ford has been a full time center volunteer in Mullens, and we all can't wait to see her there! The week long sessions at the center in Mullens have already been very successful, and Rebecca has been witness to all of them. This year, we decided to work during the 7th week, instead of the 8th and final week as we have for the past 3 years. The last (8th) week came at the latest possible time this year, and since many of our youth participants are star atheletes with very busy athletic schedules, they obviously had to do the 7th week instead.

This year's ASP Team is very excited about our upcoming trip. Last year, the first Website for the ASP team went online. However, many in the church community were unaware of the ASP site, and therefore the site was not used to its full potential. This year, a new website, sumcasp.org, has gone online and is ready for full use. This new site will allow anyone to view the progress of the ASP team, as well as view upcoming events, and even donate to the team. If you would like to view this new site, please visit sumcasp.org in your web browser. If you would like to donate to ASP, you can do so by going here.  (More) We have high hopes for this new website, and we believe that it will allow us to easily convey information to the trip's followers, as well as allow us to receive many more donations. During the trip, we update the trip blog, which is sent out via email to all of our followers. If you would like to be included in receiving our blog updates via email, please send your name and email to sumcasp@gmail.com

This year, we hope to get more money than ever from website donations. Thanks to generous donations from people like you, we know that this is going to be easy! Once again, you can easily donate by clicking here, and clicking the "Donate" button.  (Less)

Welcome to the SUMC ASP Site!

Each year, a team of youth and adults goes to Central Appalachia (West Virginia for 2007, 2008, and 2009) to partake in a life-changing experience: ASP. The youth mission trips are a week long in the summer, and during the trips the SUMC team works with other teams from around the country to make homes warmer, safer and drier for families in need, while offering transformational experiences for families, volunteers and staff alike.

The planning for the next trip, which will take place during August 2010, is already underway.
